Background Story:

This little bun as been through a lot in her little life so far!

At the start – Two domestic rabbits had been sitting in a municipal shelter for months when Animal Control reached out to Our Companions for help. The two bunnies were found as abandoned strays, but many municipal shelters are not set up to house rabbits as it can be quite a stressful environment for them. We knew it was urgent to get them both into a better environment for bunnies. In December 2024, one of our rabbit rooms because available we welcomed the two, labeled “24-26785” and “24-21750”, to our Sanctuary.

We reached out to our community on social media to help us with one of the most important parts – giving them names instead of labels! Thanks to the help of our followers, we named “24-26785” Elvis and “24-21750” Hunny. They were surrendered together but had been kept separated since they were not yet neutered and spayed. We were not sure if they may bond together as a pair and continued to separate them until they could get their alter surgeries. After they had spay and neuter surgeries, we facilitates a few supervised bunny dates with Elvis and Hunny but they didn’t seem to be a good pair together – but seem to love human attention at the least! We will continue to get to know their personalities and see if they can find some bunny friends with us, are happy to stay single buns, or perhaps be adopted to a home with another rabbit to bond with.

Hunny, formerly known as “24-26785”, looks like a Blanc de Hotot rabbit mix. She has the classic dark bands around her eyes but also has some spotting in her white fur coat! Hunny was surrendered with Elvis, and even attempted a few escapes from her habitat to get to Elvis before her spay surgery. After both bunnies had surgeries and recovered, we tried a few bunny dates but Hunny seemed to prefer spending her time alone. We moved her into a room with another shy rabbit named Hoodie, and the two have really been hitting it off! Hunny and Hoodie spent a lot of time kissing through the gates of their habitat areas and would often be found hanging out side by side. After a few weeks of this behavior, we began introducing them without barriers. Having each other to socialize with, they were able to let their personalities shine! After several months of together, Hoodie experienced a sudden neurological episode and sadly passed away. Hunny has been recovering well with the loss of her buddy and continues her search for a home of her very own!

Adoption Info:

Hunny is a gorgeous Hotot bunny! Eating is one of her favorite activities! She's very soft, has beautiful blue eyes, and is quite a curious bun! She has received her RHDV II vaccination and booster, and is spayed. Hunny would do best in a quieter home with older children. Prior rabbit experience would be great! Hunny might get along with a neutered, male bun, but otherwise would love to get adopted as a single bun and soak up all the attention!
