Background Story:

Prior to his arrival at our Sanctuary, Oliver’s previous owner was hospitalized and had to move to an assisted living facility. He was left alone in the home while a neighbor was feeding him, until Our Companions was contacted for assistance. The home was extremely cluttered, they needed to trap Oliver to get him in a carrier. Thankfully, he arrived to our Sanctuary safe and sound in 2023 at the age of 6.

Once Oliver arrived, he settled in immediately and loved all the playtime and affection the staff and volunteers were giving him throughout the day. He’s so very sweet, kind, and very friendly! He was doing very well with us, until we noticed some labored breathing and a fainting episode which led us to get an ECHO on his heart. It was discovered he had a heart murmur and was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy and a congenital disorder called mitral valve dysplasia. He has some thickening to the septum, but there is no noted left atrial enlargement, which is good, and they don’t feel any medical intervention is needed at this time. He only requires observation at this time to see if he has another more labored breathing or a fainting episode. Despite his diagnosis, Oliver still lives life to the fullest and continues to have plenty of fun with his human friends! Especially in the colder weather, he’s been so very cuddly and will give lots of kisses!
