Olive

A young pregnant cat was spotted outside in someone’s yard, and it was assumed the cat was living in an outdoor community cat colony. The goal of all community cat colonies is to ensure everyone is spayed and neutered, so the pregnant female was taken inside where she could safely have her babies before getting spayed. During her time indoors, it was clear she was not born outside but most likely a domestic cat who was abandoned. She was affectionate and enjoyed carrying on conversations with meows and chirps. Being a domestic cat, her foster knew she would need a real home instead of being spayed and returned outdoors. After the kittens were weaned from mom, her foster reached out to us to help her get spayed and eventually adopted. After her spay, we were able to offer her a room at our Sanctuary at the end of May 2025 – and named her Olive.

Olive was estimated to be 1.5 years old at the time of her surrender. Due to the stress of a new environment and the fact that her hormones were still evening out, Olive was fearful when she first arrived and would hiss at passersby. Each day she became more and more comfortable, allowing her personality and affection to shine through. Recently, Olive started meowing and standing on her hind legs to get picked up! We normally don’t pick up cats since most don’t seem to enjoy it, but after continuous cues a staff member picked her up and she absolutely melted in her arms. During Olive’s time with her foster, she also interacted with small kids without signs of stress. We aren’t sure if she is keen on other cats yet, but we are enjoying getting to know her more and more each day!
