Greta was first part of our Adopt-A-Shelter program, a program to assist local Animal Control Officers with our canine volunteers to provide training and enrichment opportunities to dogs in municipal shelters. She was originally found as a stray with some lumps and bumps, and not a lot of history to go on. Although her face and barrel body are to die for, no one picked Greta for adoption, causing her to live in the kennel environment for a very long time. Through our work with her and Animal Control, we were able to secure a spot for her to come to our Sanctuary. She had no medical records or known behavior history so we knew our facility would provide the best place for Greta’s needs: the lumps and bumps, to get spayed, and to assess behavior for adoption.

We welcomed the little gal at the end of October 2025. We took her for a vet exam, and they noticed that she has cataracts in both eyes, the right one in particular has dry eye that we’ll be addressing with drops. She does have a cyst on her left eye, as well as an old hematoma on her ear that has disfigured. And we had no record of her being spayed.

With some obvious bumps we believed were cysts or tumors, we took her in for removal surgery and a potential spay. Spay scars were found so the surgical team moved on to remove tumors/cysts. Greta also got x-rays done for her hips/joints and started medication for her eyes and joint support. We are working with Greta to see if she wants to be around other dogs. So far she’s preferring people, but we are still getting to know this darling 10-year-old pitty perfection! Can’t wait to see what else we learn from one another.
