Charlie

Charlie was initially purchased from Facebook as a pet, who then gave him to his previous owner. She cared for him for a while, but then she noticed some health concerns and took him to the vet. Charlie was diagnosed with diabetes and unfortunately, his previous owner could no longer afford his care. She contacted OC seeking veterinary assistance with his diabetic care, but ultimately had to enter Charlie in our Rehoming Program to help him find a home that could support his needs. While he was in our Rehoming Program, space at the Sanctuary opened up and we invited Charlie in November of 2024 around the age of 7 years old.

Upon his arrival, we wanted to complete a full examination of Charlie’s current health status to ensure what type of treatment and care he needed to manage his diabetes. Surprisingly, Charlie’s bloodwork looked great and didn’t indicate he was diabetic. We continued to observe Charlie, feeding him a regular diet with no special treatment, and he continued to do very well. We suspect that he might’ve been diagnosed too early and possibly never had diabetes in the first place. Given this information, we did contact his previous owner to see if she would like Charlie back, now that he officially wasn’t diabetic. However, the previous owner still felt it was best if we continued Charlie’s care given her financial limitations.

Since he is healthy, stable, and happy, Charlie is ready to find his furever family! One thing that stands out about Charlie is that he has a condition called heterochromia, which occurs when melanin isn’t distributed evenly in the irises. This results in one eye being a different color than the other, hence why Charlie has one blue eye and one green eye!
