It’s no question Bagel was loved by her first adopted family, and it felt heartbreaking to need to re-home her. Bagel’s pet guardian reached out to Our Companions for help; through the nine years she had been with her, she had seen Bagel’s behavior become increasingly agitated by any change in the home. She never really adjusted to the sister cat in the home and became increasingly aggressive with the addition of a new baby. Her pet guardian knew Bagel was normally an affectionate and playful cat who enjoys being around people, hence deciding to re-home Bagel so that she can thrive in the right home environment.

Bagel needed to be in a quiet environment ASAP and we were able to offer her a safe space to decompress and de-stress. She is a Maine Coon mix with striking orange patterns in her long, dark fur. Her eyes are just as bold to match ~ just in time for Halloween! As we enter fall, Bagel has started to blossom!

Bagel was rescued from living outside about 10 years ago. She had been an indoor cat since then but showed signs she was probably born to a feral or community cat nor was she socialized until she was an older kitten. When she first arrived at the Sanctuary, it took her a few months to trust her new surroundings, new noises, new sounds, and especially us new people. We are here to meet animals wherever they are and were happy to help Bagel adjust – even from afar! We kept her protocols tight to staff only; we would make sure her room was clean, that she was fed and had water but generally kept her room calm and quiet. Respecting her space allowed her to show us when she was ready to expand her world, trust us, and even enjoy a few treats from out hands! Now that Bagel has been settling in since Spring 2025, she’s now exploring more, meeting new people, and having a bit more fun too! We love to experience growth through compassion, behavioral education, and learning to communicate with a totally different species than ourselves! We can’t wait to continue to learn how to speak “Bagel” and see her continue to thrive.
