Animal Helpline Volunteers

Our Companions Helpline Volunteers respond to thousands of messages from the community every year and give advice on animal-related issues. Volunteers need to be comfortable speaking to clients, coaching through challenging situations and offering positive solutions.

These are all remote opportunities with an occasional in-person requirement for meetings and training.

General Requirements:

  • Daily computer access (not a tablet) is required.
  • Minimum time commitment is approximately 5 hours per week.
  • Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must complete an orientation and training program.

“The Helpline is a great first point of contact for people whose pets need our services, often involving new living arrangements. As a volunteer answering Helpline calls, I enjoy providing guidance, compassion, and crucial information about our rehoming program services that can help a beloved pet transition to a new home. I care very much about people and animals, and as a Helpline volunteer, it is rewarding when I can contribute to improving their situation through our wonderful Helpline and rehoming program.”

-Andi, Helpline Cat Placement Volunteer

“I love helping animals and people and that we're able to offer assistance in many ways (placement, adoption, community cats, veterinary and behavior assistance) to help in so many different types of situations.   Discussing potential strategies and solutions with callers so that an animal can remain in their home is so rewarding!“

-Donna, Helpline Cat Adoption Counselor and Placement Volunteer

“I am so grateful for our phone call, and have just had a chance to begin to look at your email. You have sent remarkable resources for precious Becky, the sweetest darlin’ old girl I ever knew! Thank you so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Becky’s life, as all animals, truly matters. I know you agree! Thank you for the fine work you all do at Our Companions. Much appreciation and love for all living things.”
