Summer Break - July Sanctuary Update - Our Companions Animal Rescue

Hi Everyone!

Here we are again at the peak of summer! Some of you may disagree when I say this, but… YUCK! The heat and humidity. The never-ending yard work. The vacation chaos. Autumn can’t come fast enough. Those of you who have been with us for years will know that this is the time of year when I’m at my most unmotivated. Hence, my yearly summer photo extravaganza. No clever words. No meaningful sentiments. Just a flood of cuteness. Enjoy!!

Vinny’s View

Since Jon’s taking the month off, I wanted to take on the task of addressing two meaningful topics this month: the loss of a very special kitty, and what it means for the Our Companions mission. I’ve had a number of predecessors in this corner office, and one of the most special was a girl named Patches. Those of you who have been reading these updates for years will remember the Patches’ Purr-spective column. She brought that special calico spice to these updates while she also worked hard to keep Jon on track and focused, a job I know well. She went home to a good home, but after a couple of great years, fate conspired to land her back at the sanctuary for an unfortunately short stay. She had some signs of declining health right away, and when the staff here was able to get a complete picture of what was happening, it was clear that she was very ill and that the job was going to be keeping her comfortable and giving her the best last day they could. Not only does this story resonate with me as another health-compromised office cat, but it also assures me that, even when I go to my furever home (not if…when!), the OC team will always have me in their hearts and minds, and I will always have a home here if I find myself in need again somewhere down the line. Our Companions makes a special commitment to all those in their care to do their best for them while they’re here, in sickness and in health, and to continue to care and support them into their future chapters. Goodbye Patches. Whether here or not, you’re always a part of the loving OC family.

And of Course…Adoptions!!

We’re in our annual summer adoption adoption slump, except for some reason, in the small animals. I guess any time is a good time to add a little critter to your life. Dogs and cats had no adoptions in July, but were able to welcome Maple and Ollie to the dog world and Fleetwood and O’Malley to cat land. In small animals, guinea pigs Pinky and Blu, hamsters Goldie and Apple, and ALL of our ferrets, Zoe and Zyla, and Jovi, Dulce, and Bowie went home this month. And with that, we welcomed in chinchillas Artemis and Griffin.
