25 Years of Doing the Right Thing for Animals

How it all began:

Our Companions was founded with a gift of land, a former factory farm, and a bold idea: that animals who were elderly, abused, behaviorally challenged, or medically fragile deserve a second chance, love, rehabilitation and a bright new future.

What began as a dream has grown into a statewide resource serving animals and the people who love them every single day. Over time, that commitment expanded beyond our Sanctuary.

Today, We Serve Animals and People Across Connecticut

From adoption and behavior training to veterinary assistance, our Helpline, and community cat support, Our Companions has become a trusted partner for families and municipalities alike. Learn more about our programs.

But the need is growing.

Across Connecticut, we are seeing:

  • Record numbers of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment cases
  • Families struggling with rising veterinary costs
  • Animal control officers stretched beyond capacity

More than ever, animals, and the people who love them, are turning to Our Companions for help.

As we mark this milestone, we are not simply celebrating the past, we are building for the future.

Our 25th Anniversary Comprehensive Campaign, Doing the Right Thing for Animals, is designed to strengthen our foundation so we can meet this moment and the next 25 years with strength and vision.

This campaign will:

  • Grow our Annual Fund to expand lifesaving programs
  • Build a multi-purpose Education Center at the Sanctuary
  • Bring veterinary staff on-site
  • Launch a Mobile Veterinary Clinic to reach underserved communities
  • Strengthen long-term sustainability and operational capacity

This is the most ambitious effort in our history, and the most necessary.

The needs of animals are growing and we are ready to meet them. With the partnership of our dedicated community, we will continue to serve animals and the people who love them, honoring our promise to always do the right thing for animals, now and for generations to come.
