Tater Tot’s Story

Tater Tot, a one year-old cockapoo, had a rough start in life. When he came to our Sanctuary, he was dangerously underweight, badly matted, and had a previously untreated broken leg which healed incorrectly, making it difficult for him to walk. While he was sweet, he was fearful and under-socialized, as he had lived most of his life in a basement.

His challenges were significant, but we knew we could provide him the care and rehabilitation he’d need to get a fresh start.

At our Sanctuary, we set up a cozy and comfortable space for him in one of our canine rescue cottages. Volunteers and staff took him for short walks at the Sanctuary where he met new people, had new experiences, and began his socialization journey.

Concurrently, our team consulted several orthopedic veterinarians to determine the best strategy for handling his neglected injury. When it was determined that he would need surgery, we began planning his rehabilitation regimen.

Throughout it all, our canine behavior specialists patiently worked with Tater Tot to address his fearfulness and build up his confidence.

Tater Tot has a long road ahead of him, but he’s making great strides.

Please consider making a year-end gift today to ensure we will have the resources to help even more animals facing complex challenges just like Tater Tot.

On behalf of our staff, and our team of over 400 volunteers, I wish you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
