Young Zatanna was found as a stray, picked up by a local animal control officer, and brought to the nearest vet hospital for examination. She was diagnosed with Pyometra, a bacterial infection in the uterus, which could be a life-threatening condition. However, she underwent a spay surgery and recovered in the hospital. Since she was a medical case and needed some more involved than a traditional shelter could provide, Zatanna made her way to the Sanctuary to recover. She was estimated to be around 1 year old when she arrived in June 2024.
Zatanna has the most beautiful red moon eyes, fluffy deeply colored fur, and a darlin petite body. She has been a shy kitty with a very sweet side. It took her a few weeks to decompress so we gave her space as she got used to the new sounds, smells, and routines. As she started to investigate us more, we started noticing other strange symptoms in her health. Zatanna has displayed moments of drooling and instability with her mobility that will need further medical investigation. At times she goes to the bathroom in her sleep, seeming to not realize she is doing so at the time. Her gate can look “wobbly” but thus far diagnostics really have not shown us anything remarkable. Bloodwork done in December 2025 came back largely normal so we are continuing our search to help her heal however needed. We continue to give her quiet bonding activities, snuggles and combing sessions. She still enjoys her free roam time and time out on her catio!
