Background Story:
A cat, we now call Vinny, originally showed up as a stray within a managed community cat colony. The colony caretaker noticed this new cat looked very unwell and thin and promptly brought him to the vet. Vinny had a fever, a urinary tract infection, and was diabetic. The caretaker took Vinny to her home to care for him for the time being. She contacted Our Companions to further assist with his long-term care. Once a room was available, we were able to assist in taking Vinny under our care.
We welcome Vinny to our Sanctuary to receive some much-needed TLC and to get his diabetes under control. Our vet estimated Vinny to be about 5 years old when he came to us in June 2025. So far he has been a champ taking his insulin and settling in with us. He’s even opened the bakery for biscuit making accompanied by sweet, loud purrs! We are so happy to open our doors to this sweet boy and can’t wait to help him feel his best.
Adoption Info:
Meet vocal, playful and smart Vinny! A handsome 9 years old brown tabby who is ready for his forever home! Vinny enjoys being around people, chattering away his signature chirp, and making endless batches of biscuits on his favorite blankets. As a certified biscuit-maker, Vinny works in his floor cardboard scratcher multiple times a day to keep his nails in purrfect condition! Vinny may not be a “lap cat” but he will happily sit beside you while you watch TV, read or work and gladly accept some short, gentle sessions of petting and brushing until he’ll clearly let you know that he’s done, so it will be important the adopter knows how to read his cues and giving him space when he asks for it! Wonderful Vinny has such a youthful energy that you won’t believe he is 9 years old! He absolutely enjoys all sorts of interactive toys, but is particularly fond of his wired mouse, turkey feathers, ball tower and of course catnip! However, chasing toys behind a blanket get him going so watch out for those Zoomies! Vinny has a few health quirks including diabetes, asthma and is FIV+ and while it might sound like a lot, these conditions are easily manageable, and our smart and good-natured Vinny is already well adjusted to his daily routine so that he will be extremely cooperative! He receives a tiny amount of insulin twice a day for his diabetes, and a random puff of his inhaler for his occasional asthma. The FIV+ condition only requires that Vinny is kept strictly indoors, is provided with a quality diet and has a quiet and low-stress home where he can be the one and only king of the castle! Vinny will thrive in an adult only home under the care of a seasoned cat savvy person who understands boundaries and can keep consistent care and monitoring the small changes that matter for diabetic cat. Vinny will prefer to be your only pet and is looking for someone who appreciates a gentle, expressive cat with a lot of heart.
