At the end of 2025, a 2-year-old Husky mix was found as a stray and brough to a local municipal shelter. The shelter was part of our Adopt-A-Shelter Program* where canine trainer staff and volunteers work with municipal shelter dogs to help them find a forever home. Paloma was stoic and almost “cat like”; a unique personality to get to know. With our team, progress socializing with people was slow leading us to believe she needed the Sanctuary environment for a little extra TLC before she could find a fur-ever home.
When spaced opened at the Sanctuary, we welcomed Paloma as a guest in January 2026. She came just in time – as she LOVES the snow! Paloma has been enjoying any snow-based activities and adventures around the Sanctuary. She is also social with other dogs and is already becoming best buddies with Coal and Duggie. We are excited to continue to get to know her likes and dislikes, and gain trust with her and her human friends too!
* Adopt-A-Shelter Program: The program pairs local Animal Control Officers (ACOs) with trained volunteers to provide training and enrichment opportunities to dogs in shelters. At Our Companions, we believe that every animal deserves a loving home. With this program, we hope to help find homes for the canines that have found their way into the shelter.
