Lucas loves to be where the action is! This 9-year-old gray tiger kitty is curious, playful, and loves to be around people. He loves to play with his “cat dancer” toys and learn new tricks, and also enjoys sitting on your lap. He will head butt you all over and will turn into a huge PURRR machine when you give him scratches behind the ears! If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate companion who can be the king of your castle, Lucas may be your man!
Lucas was born to a feral/stray mom and adopted by his first family at the age of 6 weeks. He was raised with two adult cats that he maintained a tenuous relationship with- having no litter mates to play with and learn from, his social skills suffered. He grew into a stressed and anxious cat that slowly began to learn to get his way by nipping, swatting and acting aggressive. When his owners had a child they decided Lucas could no longer be trusted in the home, and he was passed along to another family members. That family member was unable to keep Lucas long term, and at the age of 8, Lucas arrived at the Sanctuary in December 2017. Given space and respect, Lucas has been learning how to properly interact with people. The kindness he has been shown is now being returned with happy purrs and affection – and sometimes still the occasional over-excited swat (he does still have a bit of a sensitive side). He has blossomed into a playful, intelligent, and more confident kitty who brings a smile to everyone who meets him.
Lucas is looking for an adult-only home where he is the only pet, preferably with experienced “cat people” who can recognize when he’s had enough and needs a break to just chill on the couch. You will get extra points if you are the human who feeds him dinner!
