Each day, we encounter people in the community who go to great lengths to help animals in need. These “Natural Rescuers,” as we call them, are all around us and thank goodness for them – they are the unsung heroes of Our Companions.
You probably know one yourself. Or perhaps you are one! A Natural Rescuer is the woman who stops traffic to save a lost dog wandering in the road; the man your neighbors seek out when a stray cat appears in a neighborhood; the couple who makes it their responsibility to care for the pet of a neighbor who has suddenly fallen ill or has passed away; the senior citizen who gets up at 5AM, even in the dead of winter, to feed a colony of cats.
These compassionate people are essential to our work. We could never help the vast numbers of people and pets in our community without their assistance. By partnering with these kind souls who reach out to us for support, we can make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of those most in need. They are our eyes and ears in the community.
At Our Companions Animal Rescue, our programs are set up specifically to support these Natural Rescuers. Every year, we receive over 5,000 calls on our Animal Helpline. While many of the calls we receive are from individuals seeking help with their own animal-related challenges, many are also from these Natural Rescuers, looking for support, counsel, and resources to help pets of a friend, acquaintance, family member or neighbor in need. The kindness of these quiet partners makes so much of what we do possible.
This fall, we hope you will consider making a gift to Our Companions Animal Rescue to support our many programs which provide us the resources to help people and pets in our community.
Thank you for making our work possible.
