What can I do to help?

We have many programs, services and initiatives that require volunteer support. Our volunteer opportunities are varied and some can even be done from the comfort of your own home.

Below is a sample of some of the volunteer opportunities available. Please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@ourcompanions.org for an updated listing.

Ambassadors (V) - Do you want to become an animal expert? This program is an exciting way for those who love animals to become public ambassadors of Our Companions. Those interested will attend a six week course covering a variety of material relating to animal welfare in general and more specifically, the mission and goals of Our Companions.

Once trained volunteers will become the official ambassadors of Our Companions and provide the staffing for our public events.  Additionally, Our Companions Ambassadors will initiate local fundraisers, public relations campaigns and civic programs.

Administrative Support (O) - Our programs run on the energy and talent of our volunteers. You can assist by offering your business and administrative skills to help us accomplish our development and program goals.

Grant Writing (O,V) – Individuals are needed to research and write grants for a variety of programs and initiatives. Individuals working in this committee should have good writing skill and excellent attention to detail.

Animal Helpline (O,V) - Our Helpline prevents the unnecessary abandonment and euthanasia of pets by utilizing our trained Animal Welfare Professionals to respond to calls and offer resources and options so pet owners can make humane and responsible decisions. Our Helpline also leads our adoption program and finds loving homes for hundreds of pets.

Copy Writer/Designer (V) - Are you a talented writer? If so, we need you! We are looking for writers who can contribute to our quarterly newsletter, website and other print materials. If you have experience in designing and publishing, we'd love to hear from you too!

LEAD Training Assistant (T) – Our training programs have saved hundreds of dogs from being euthanized.  If you have experience with positive reinforcement training or behavior modification or just love working with dogs, we'd love to have you become part of this program. 

Sanctuary Beautification (S) – While our Ashford property is already quite remarkable, we will need volunteers who can help keep it beautiful.  Whether it's clearing trails, planting flowers or laying mulch, your landscaping skills are needed.

Special Events (V) – We are often involved with public outreach such as the Pet Expo and Dogman Classic golf tournament and need volunteers who can help prior to, during, and after the event.  If you like working with the public, we have the perfect role for you!
