Our Companions History

Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c) nonprofit organization founded in May 2002 and is committed to making Connecticut a state where healthy pets are no longer destroyed.

The impetus for creating Our Companions was a once-in-lifetime donation of 43 acres of land in Ashford, Connecticut. The property, originally the site of an industrial egg farm, will be the site of Connecticut's first animal sanctuary and comprehensive pet resource center.

We currently offer unique public services aimed at eliminating the root causes of pet homelessness, including training classes, pet consultations, low-cost spay/neuter assistance, community education, and a pet adoption network. In 2006, we will be breaking ground on our sanctuary and resource center which will allow us to dramatically expand on these services.
